As a registered charity, we are always on the look out for grants, donations and funding to help us engage with and benefit even more people. Included in the list below are some of our long-term funders (on the left) and some of the other ways we generate income (on the right).

Arts Council of Northern Ireland / National Lottery support some of Circusful’s core costs like salaries, insurance and electricity, and some of our artists’ costs. From time to time, ACNI even provides a little extra for equipment and small building works. They are one of our principal funders.

In 2023, we received additional funding from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland / National Lottery, to take over and manage the Mike Moloney Award for Young People in Circus. This award was launched in August 2023, with 3 projects being funded in Ocotber.

We are proud to be one of nine Anchor organisations funded to play a key role in supporting the council achieve its ten-year cultural strategy. We are funded for four years (2020-2024) to support A City Imagining, which imagines a culturally vibrant city.

The Department for Communities awarded us £23,000 in 2020 to improve access with a wheelchair ramp and automatic doors, and to make our website more accessible.

The Esmée Fairbairn Foundation awarded us a three-year grant designed to help us achieve three goals. The first is to ensure that all children and young people benefit from our work. The second is to give our younger members a greater say in our decision-making. And the third is to put our new strategy and brand principles into practice.

The Foyle Foundation

We are delighted to announce that we have received funding from the Foyle Foundation towards the salaries of two staff member who are essential to delivery and widening participation. This support is so important and helps us continue our work, in bringing the wonder and colour of circus to children, young people and adults.

RTÉ Toy Show Appeal

In June 2022, we received funding from the RTÉ Toy Show Appeal, which allowed us to run community programmes with Disability, Care Experienced, and Rural groups. In June 2023, we received further funding to continue our outreach work with these types of groups of children and young people. These programmes are all free at the point of access and help us to change lives through the power of circus!

Esme Mitchell

Esme Mitchell awarded us £5000, which will go towards our core costs, including a review of our work with and for 2-7 year olds, which will be carried out by our Head of Programmes, Pathways and Participation.

Nationwide
+

In 2022, Nationwide awarded us with a grant to develop. deliver and evaluate Social Circus Skill-up - a multi-dimensional programme designed to support the development and progression of circus artists and trainers across Northern Ireland, leading to the engagement of around 16 circus trainers, 4 new partner organisations and around 48 children and young people.

NI Future Screens Arts Fund

In 2022, The Art Work - Covid 19 Recovery Programme Employment and Skills Initiative, which is funding by the Department of Communities through Future Screens NI was launched. We were awarded this funding and were able to recruit our new Trainee Producer, who joined the team in July 2022.

Ulster Garden Villages +

Ulster Garden Villages awarded us £15,000 in 2020 to help refurbish of our circus space.

Other trusts +

Other trusts, foundations and public sources. We receive occasional project-specific grants and one-off donations from people and groups who have benefited from our schemes.

Our Circusful family +

Hundreds of you flock to our Itty Bitty, Youth Circus and Adult Circus classes every week. Over 30 local artists are employed to deliver these brilliant classes week in and week out, all year round.

Community groups +

Community groups who book our outreach workshops help us to deliver our mission to have fun and build a community together.

Conferences and events +

Our professional performance agency arm provides our freelance artists with paid gigs. In turn, they open eyes and minds and generate an important funding stream. They bring colour and life to corporate and community events all over Ireland and beyond.

We have also worked with the Romanian Roma Community Association NI and Conway Mill Inclusion Support Project and other community-specific groups. We plan to continue this work in the future.
